Our bird walk this morning was held in conjunction with the Walk in the Wild Celebration to increase appreciation and knowledge of migratory birds. Our bird list below is a compilation of the birds I saw while working at the Celebration and the birds seen by some of the Saturday Birders. It was a great day to celebrate birds!

Bird of the Day
Peregrine Falcon −
Falco peregrinus

I saw two peregrines this morning. One was an educational (i.e. injured) bird which Nature's Educators brought to Walk in
the Wild and the other was a wild bird migrating overhead.

Peregrines have made a good comeback and we certainly are blessed to have several pairs nest in Boulder County, but it still is a thrill to see them. We also saw a prairie falcon this morning. Both birds are about the same shape and size, but you can distinguish flying birds because prairie falcons have dark axillaries (i.e. wing pits) and peregrines have a more uniform pattern and color to their underwings.
