American Kestrels are always a show stopper on the bird walks. If you ever get a good look at a male kestrel, you will know why (see slide show). The black markings and spots combined with the copper and French blue tones are mesmerizing. One of the birds we saw this morning had just caught a mouse/vole. In the slide show I have sparred the more gruesome images of his meal. Kestrels eat mostly insects, mice and voles, and a few small birds.
