The fog was so thick this morning. It was both frustrating and magical. When we were out at Boulder Reservoir, the snow on the ground and the thick fog created a mystical feeling because you could not distinguish the horizon-very disorienting. As for bird watching, the fog definitely did not help, but we had some interesting experiences because of it. See the slide show for images of several frosty birds.

Bird of the Day:  Bald Eagle -
Haliaeetus leucocephalus

Bald Eagle İAda Kaia

Luckily, we ran across this eagle during our brief sunny period. We saw a lot of raptors today just driving along the backroads of the county. This bird is a fully mature bird, showing a brilliant white head. Bald eagles molt into their white heads after four years and the head can still show a little smudging for a couple of years after that.
