Saturday Bird Walk - Bird Count - Jan 2, 2016
Sunny, cold and breezy turning calm and mild. 20-35°F.
2-10 mph. 10 participants.
Happy New Birding Year! Our walk this morning started out the birding year a little slow. We can only go up from here! Instead of a resolution, I have a New Year's Challenge for all of you - spend more time outdoors compared to last year! Gardening, reading, relaxing, walking, biking, running, and especially bird and nature watching. Enjoy!

Bird of the Day: Mallard −
Anas platyrhynchos
We worked for our birds this morning. We were walking along the creek and seeing very little,
hoping to get to the far side of Scott Carpenter Park where we thought we might find some birds. We were rewarded by a group of spectacular mallards, approachable, colorful, and active. Mallards have never made the cut for Bird of the Day before, but we should never mistake commonness with uninteresting. They are fantastic! The abundance of mallards gives us the chance to observe waterfowl behavior year-round and up close. So take advantage to watch one of our most colorful and common birds.
