Saturday Bird Walk - Bird Count - Dec 19, 2015
Cold and breezy. 20°F. 4-8 mph. 12 participants.
It wasn't so much the cold this morning as the wind that got to us. But we had lots of good
birds and that always makes up for any unpleasant conditions. Today's walk was an effort to preview for the Annual Audubon Christmas Bird Count which takes place tomorrow (the 20th). If the birds we saw this morning are not counted tomorrow, then they will be added to the count week data.
As we come to the close of 2015, I would like to thank all my customers, employee Wendy Stuart, and my family for making the Wild Bird Company possible. And special thanks to my bird walk photographers for sharing their images for all of us to enjoy.

Even though the feed lot operation at Teller Farm Open Space has been dismantled, there are still many birds attracted to that space including many sparrows. American Tree Sparrows are one of my favorite winter sparrows. They have beautiful colors of gray, rust, black, and white. Add to that the yellow lower mandible and industrious sparrow mentality and you have something worth watching. Neal Zaun and Kevin Rutherford both captured wonderful images this morning for the slide show. Thank you gentlemen.
