Saturday Bird Walk - Bird Count - Nov 7, 2015

Today was our annual Look for Loons Walk. The end of October and beginning of November is the best time to search for loons at the larger reservoirs.

common. They are the largest of the three with a big block head and hefty bill. The medium size loon is the Pacific and the small loon is the red-throated which has recently been seen on Terry Reservoir. As is often the case, the loons we saw this morning were far off. Therefore, one of the images for the common loon in the slide show was one I took in Minnesota. Note; the image of the Minnesota loons are in their alternate or breeding plumage, not the basic plumage we saw them in today.
