Many sage thrashers have been reported around so I was itching to go find them, especially since I felt I missed them last year. What better place to find sage thrashers than at Sage Trail? Click on the slide show button below to see some of the finds from today.

   Sage Thrasher

    Sage Thrasher
Sage thrashers are one part mockingbird, one part pipit, one part thrasher, and one part roadrunner. We got to see the roadrunner part when one bird this morning caught a grasshopper on the trail. After catching the grasshopper, it ran in short bursts across the trail with its tail cocked up-just like a roadrunner on the move. See Jane Baryames' video of this bird from this morning by clicking on the link below. Sage thrashers are migrants in Boulder County seen mostly during the month of August in the foothills and nearby plains.
