Today was the Walk in the Wild: International Migratory Bird Day (IMBD) Celebration out at Walden Ponds which the Wildbird Company helps sponsor. We started the morning like always, leaving the store and heading out bird watching. After an hour, I had to return to the store to retrieve the coffee for IMBD while the rest of the group continued bird watching and then met me at Walden Ponds. It was a great morning of teaching about and celebrating migratory birds. Thanks to all those that participated and helped at IMBD, and especially to Environment for the Americas for hosting the event.

Black-Chinned Hummingbird

Black-Chinned Hummingbird
While we were all together as a Wildbird Group, we visited Centennial Trail to see what new birds had arrived this week. I mentioned that a particular tree has been the haunt of a male black-chinned hummingbird for at least three years. Not more than a minute passed when we saw something small zip up to the top. I only saw it out of the corner of my eye, but the movement of a hummingbird is unmistakable. There it was guarding its territory, a male black-chinned hummingbird. These birds have really been on the increase in Boulder County.
