____________________________________________________ Saturday, February 21, 2015 Bird Walk
As far as I can tell, the walk was cancelled on Saturday due to the weather because I did not receive any reports and I was not there either. We were out of town, but I still had the urge to go out birding on Saturday morning. I went to a small natural area in the northeast Sandhills Region of Nebraska called Long Pine State Recreation Area near Bassett, NE. This very interesting place is a cedar-oak woodland along a fast flowing, sand-bottomed creek. The creek carves out a sharp ravine in the otherwise flat landscape. Most of the images on the slide show are from Long Pine, but I have also mixed in a few other Sandhill images. This beautiful region is so close to us in Colorado and should not be overlooked by anyone interested in natural history.
