Mountain Bluebird
(from 09.22.12 Bird Walk)

Mountain Bluebird
This morning I thought "it's mid-March, we should look for mountain bluebirds". We went to South Mesa Trail in our search. After climbing up the road to the where the Towhee Trail Closure ends, I spotted our quarry several hundred yards away near some ponderosas. We proceeded to climb up to the ponderosas over a muddy and sometimes steep trail. When we arrived, the bluebirds were nowhere to be found. After searching, they were spotted again way up on the ridge. We were trying to get near them for a great look, but that is way it goes sometimes in birding. So the Bird of the Day honors goes to the bird we worked the most for - mountain bluebird. Since we didn't get close enough for decent pictures, we are using some bluebird images from past walks.
