We worked for it this morning. It was a little quiet up at Betasso, even though we had some good numbers of a few species. Birds like pygmy nuthatches and chipping sparrows make you work because they don't stay still! Lots of good blooming up in the hills still, thanks to our occasional rains this summer.

White-Breasted Nuthatch
I love watching nuthatches. We were lacking for a Bird of the Day until a pair of white-breasted nuthatches showed up in the tree we were standing near. They worked the tree hopping all over it every which way in true nuthatch fashion. Their comical movements are why I call nuthatches "nutheads".
