A delightful morning walking along Old St. Vrain Road where, in the morning, you are in shade most of the way. The theme of the day turned into nesting. We found nesting wood-pewees and orioles and we also saw cedar waxwings, a hummingbird, and cordilleran flycatchers building nests. We also saw recently fledged downy woodpeckers, robins, and house finches. A good morning for witnessing nesting.

Lazuli Bunting
By sheer oohs and aahs the lazuli was chosen as the Bird of the Day. Close runners up were the nest building cedar waxwings and the very close by nest building hummingbird. The lazuli buntings were still singing and defending territory so it's still a good time to look for them. Try to get the sun behind you so the blue in the buntings really shows off. With birds that are blue, it's all about the geometry of you the bird and the sun. Backlit blue birds look like mud.
