Today we celebrated International Migratory Bird Day with an event co-sponsored by Environment for the Americas called Walk in the Wild. The event was held at Walden and Sawhill Ponds where we led people on bird walks, had numerous education stations, held an auction, talked about birds, and had treats and shade grown coffee. As you will see from the slide show, a group called Nature's Educators had live birds of prey including a gyrfalcon and a golden eagle. Also in the slide show, look for a picture of a newly planted hackberry tree. This tree was planted on the east side of Cottonwood Marsh with last years' donation from the Wild Bird Center. You can still make a donation to Walk in the Wild from this link boulderbirdday.dojiggy.com.

Long-Billed Dowitcher
The dowitchers were so close to us that the cattails screened them. It wasn't until we walked to the other side of the board walk that we could look at them. This collection of 20 was great to see. Other contenders for the Bird of the Day spotlight included the swallows, hundreds of them concentrated over the water in the cool morning air. Also, the blackpoll warbler, but I saw that alone so it hardly seems right to pick it.
