When I stepped out of my door this morning before dawn, I heard robins singing. Spring is here! I thought despite the chilly conditions. And the robins didn't stop at my door, they were all over South Mesa this morning. More and more singing can be heard these days. Don't let them pass you by without giving a listen.

Wild Bird Center Employee Bill Eeds moved to Louisiana last week. I know many of you, as well as I, will miss him. Please send your good thoughts his way. Thanks for all your good work and friendship while at the Wild Bird Center.

Yellow-Bellied Sapsucker
We found this sapsucker diligently tending its sap wells. You can see the wells in some of the images. Note that this bird has a red throat bordered in black whereas our summer resident red-naped sapsucker has a red throat bordered in white and black. Thankfully, our bird from this morning was not as shy as most yellow-bellies are. Perhaps, that is why cartoons have singled this bird out as being cowardly.
