Earlier this week, word went out that a Pacific Wren was spotted in back of Sawhill Ponds. When we got there this morning the place was crawling with
birders all milling about, pishing, and bushwhacking to get a glimpse of this secretive bird. So there was no real chance of seeing it when we showed up.

Canvasback
Sometimes it's hard to pick the Bird of the Day. We can't always pick birds of prey, can we? We certainly had opportunities to pick a bird of prey today, but I voted for canvasback. Canvasback are beautiful ducks which have seen dramatically reduced numbers over the last century. So I always feel privileged to see them.
