Everything was hunkered down this morning including us. We went on a mostly driving tour this morning. There were plenty of raptors to be seen, but not much else. I cheated a bit on the slide show because I took a few images of our Bird of the Day on the way home in the afternoon.

Note: I have been doing some spreadsheet work with our bird walks from last year. On the Saturday Morning Walks for 2013, we saw 18,830 birds of
173 different species!

Rough-Legged Hawk
In Boulder County over the past 20 years, very few rough-legged hawks have shown up in winter. Some of those years I have not heard of or observed any in the county. This is the result of many factors both human-caused and natural. However, this year is a different story. Rough-legged hawks seem to be all over. Enjoy them while they're here, because this might not happen again for a long time.
