My schedule this morning dictated our route - I needed to be home before the walk was finished so I brought everyone over to my house. The good part of that
is I still have all four "regularly" occurring hummingbirds in my yard. When we arrived we saw a sharp-shinned hawk chasing a crow down the street. They ended up in my backyard which is cool, but having a sharpie around doesn't encourage other birds to hang around. Still, we had a great time and all four of the hummer species showed up.

Calliope Hummingbird
We had at least two calliopes this morning. Female and immature hummers are difficult to distinguish, but calliopes are so small, with a short bill and tail which they cock like a wren often when foraging. Also note the grayish-white patches near the eyes and the little "grin" at the base of the bill. Calliopes are considered uncommon regionally, but they are usually my most common hummer in the yard. Many others on the plains have reported the same experience.
