June 29, 2013  Sunny, but not too hot (thanks to some shade).

We went birding at one of my favorite places this morning. I was a bit nervous about the bird watching after seeing the roads in Lyons. It hailed last night in Lyons and leaves and branches carpeted the roads (see slideshow images). However, the birding was great; we had a kestrel dive bombing a red-tailed hawk, lots of violet-green swallows, catbirds, and a great show by a juvenile American Dipper.

American Dipper
A close American Dipper was a thrill for us today. It didn't seem to mind us watching and clicking cameras. This juvenile does not show the brown head of its parents. Our dipper was a life bird for several of our bird watchers this morning.
