I took my large group on a chase for two rare and secretive birds this morning. The two birds were a northern bobwhite which has been reported at East Boulder Rec Center and a least bittern seen recently at Sawhill Ponds. I knew our chances of seeing these birds were slim, but we would see other great birds in our search. That is exactly what happened; no rarities, but a good day anyway. Watch the slideshow for images of the birds and other creatures we saw.

American Avocet
The toss-up today was between the avocets and the pelicans for Bird of the Day. In the end, I chose the American Avocet for our bird. These strikingly beautiful birds are nesting right now at Walden Ponds. They use the islands in Cottonwood Marsh as safe havens for nesting. Go check them out soon!
