Today was a special day because we co-sponsored the Walk in the Wild Event out at Walden Ponds Open Space. This event was in celebration of International Migratory Bird Day to raise money for local bird habitat restoration. We started out by having a regular Saturday Bird Walk leaving from the store then we ended up at Walk in the Wild. From there, I led two more bird walks. We had experienced birders, kids, and many folks who had never been on a bird walk. (Can you image that?) It was a great event. The only down-side was my camera battery died and my backup was bad so I did not take a lot of images. Therefore, we don't have as many images for the slideshow, but I did get some great contributions (images that is).

Bird of the Day
May 18, 2013 Saturday Bird Walk

Eastern Kingbird

Eastern Kingbird
Several birds put on good shows throughout the course of the morning, but my vote is going to the Eastern Kingbird. We had many kingbirds out establishing territory - showing off. Sawhill and Walden Ponds are some of the best places to see Eastern Kingbirds in the County. Go out and watch them for a while and see why they are called kingbirds.
