May is the best bird watching month of the year in my humble opinion. This morning's walk was a great way to start this great month. At one point, we were watching two great horned owls. Look carefully on the slide show to spot both owls. One was clearly an adult and the other seemed a little dopey so we assumed it was either a teenager or a husband. An immature Cooper's Hawk came flying by looking for a place to perch. It landed in the tree very close to the adult/female owl. The owl jumped at the hawk scaring it off, but for some reason it hung around the two owls while it called for a while. Get out there this week, there are great things to see!

Eastern Phoebe
I knew about one pair of phoebes along the creek before we went this morning, but it was a surprise to see a second pair. Eastern phoebes are not super uncommon in Boulder County, but their presence is notable and I think four of them is very notable.
