     Upcoming Event: Great
       Backyard Bird Count

On February 15-17th the Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology would like to have you count the birds you see, not only in your backyard, but also on walks and birding trips. The Great Backyard Bird Count Website
has all the details. It's great way to learn about birds and help bird research. The Wild Bird Center will be submitting checklists from the Saturday Walk and from the store. Please join in the fun!

The birds waited around this morning before showing themselves, not unusual for February. The mallards were showing themselves well and they almost made it to Bird of the Day status. A lot of water will open up this coming week so look for ducks.

Bird of the Day

Ruby-Crowned Kinglet

Ruby-Crowned Kinglet

My image of the bird we saw today did not turn out well, so I had to buy one for the today's Bird of the Day image. One problem with photographing kinglets is that they will not sit still. They are more active even than warblers. Note: You often do not see the ruby crown.
