binoculars and child Happy New Year! We had a wonderful walk this morning and got to see a lot of species. Why not challenge yourself to see more birds this year in the state, county, or your yard? It would be a fun challenge and it would get you outdoors. Good for your brain and your heart. I've seen 59 species so far this year. Good luck in the New Year and good birding!

Swamp Sparrow

This common wetland sparrow of the East is not a regular visitor to Boulder County. However, several have shown up here this winter. We were lucky enough to see one this morning, I just wasn't lucky enough to get a good picture of it. Thanks to Neal Zaun and Dave Christenson for sending images for us to enjoy.

Birds need fat to burn in order to keep warm in the winter. What's better than eating pure fat? For the birds, anyway, it's a great food which gives them needed energy.
