December 8, 2012 Sunny and cool. 30°F. 2-8 mph. 9 participants.
binoculars and childWe had quite an eventful bird walk today. We started out at Dodd Reservoir where we were yelled at by the farm lady who patrols the road for "parking violators". She even called the sheriff to come give us tickets. I would doubt they ever showed up because it is legal to pull off the road and park on that stretch of road. We couldn't stick around to see what happened, however, because I had to go to Longmont and pick up Charlie from the Orthodontist after his braces fell off last night. Still, we did get some chilly morning birding in.

Snow Goose

There seem to be good numbers of odd geese around this winter and Dodd Reservoir in Niwot is one of the best places to look for these different geese like snow and white-fronted. Thanks to Rolando Garcia for today's image of the snow goose which he captured as it flew away this morning.

Birds need fat to burn in order to keep warm in the winter. What's better than eating pure fat? For the birds, anyway, it's a great food which gives them needed energy.
