A bit chillier than most of us expected this morning, but most in our group were rewarded with a life, state, or county bird. See the bird of the day to find out what it was. Good numbers of "oddball" (or silly if you prefer) geese around. All you have to do is be patient looking through the crowds of Canada and cackling geese to find them.

Common Redpoll
This is a bird I have been looking for the last few weeks. Common Redpolls are only occasional winter visitors to the high country in Colorado. In Boulder County, the town of Ward has a few redpolls every few years. This year common redpolls have been spotted in all kinds of places in Colorado and in good numbers.  So I've been looking and today we found a large flock feeding amongst the weeds on the west side of Baseline Reservoir. They were not close so the images are a little soft, but they give you a feel for how hard they were to find.
