Celebration of a New Spring - Herewith, a few suggestions to regenerate by adding to your art collection, refurbishing your environment, or widening your horizons with reminders of different times and cultures.  To be found in DWB's Upper Level Galleries.

Tarkay
An Artist's Life

Itzchak Tarkay (1935-2012) was born in Subotica on the Yugoslav-Hungarian border.

He survived the Holocaust to become an acrylic painter, watercolorist, and master graphic artist. His rich tapestry of form and color reflecting life was achieved primarily through the use of the serigraph, in which he laid many colors over one another to create texture and transparency.  This technique can be seen in the work above, titled Nicole, currently on display in our Upper Level Galleries.

SCAVO GLASS UNEARTHED

This rare Alfredo Barbini (1912-2007) vase in red is a beautiful example of scavo glasswork technique. "Scavo" means to "excavate" or "to dig".  Here Barbini applied a corrosive material to glass giving it a look of abrasion from the elements over time.

GLASS AND LIGHT

Correia Art Glass, in Santa Monica, CA, was founded in 1973 by internationally recognized glass artist Steven V. Correia.   This amber threaded bowl is signed, dated, and numbered 162/500.  From the year 2000.

ClayVessel
Pre-Columbian Earthenware Pot
This clay vessel comes from the Quillacinga
culture of Columbia which flourished from 200-1500 AD.  The area from which it derives is the Andean range.  The price range on these sorts of vessels is from $150-$350.  Approximately 8.5" in diameter and 7.5" high.

OaxacanCarvings

Oaxacan wood carvings from Mexico are carved from the soft wood of the copal tree and then painted in bright, colorful patterns.  Based on a long tradition of the Zapotec civilization, these works bring not only joy to collectors but also help support entire villages. Works from master carvers can be distinguished from those of lesser carvers by the fact that every part, such as ears or horns, can be removed.  Several pieces in this collection are signed by the artists.
