Let us take a few minutes and study God's dietary guidelines together and see what the Bible and inspiration have to say on the subject. When we are finished, you can watch The Five Diets of the Bible on the video below. Let us begin our study.
Diet #1 is recorded in Genesis 1:29:
"And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat."
"In order to know what are the best foods, we must study God's original plan for man's diet. He who created man and who understands
his needs appointed Adam his food" (CG 380). The original diet included the herbs bearing seed, or what we call grains and seeds. Some examples of these foods are wheat, oats, barley, sunflower, flax, and chia seeds. The first diet also included fruits and nuts. Some examples of these foods are peaches, apples, plums, pears, almonds, walnuts, and pecans.
From Diet #1, we learn that God provided a vast array of colorful, antioxidant-rich, life-giving foods. The original, cholesterol-free diet was packed with perfect nutrition, phytochemicals, and live enzymes. God made man and furnished the best diet possible for His creatures.
"In his original plan God did not provide for the use of the flesh of dead animals as a diet for man" (HL 99). Adam gave names to the animals (Genesis 2:20). He was not barbecuing them. You may have heard me say in one of my lectures: "My stomach is not a cemetery for dead animals!"
DIET #2 - "The green herb of the field" (Gen. 3:18; 9:3). After man sinned, he was driven out of the Garden of Eden and no longer had access to the Tree of Life (Gen. 3:24) which gave him immortality. "Upon leaving Eden to gain his livelihood by tilling the
earth under the curse of sin, man received permission to eat also "the herb of the field. ... Grains, fruits, nuts, and vegetables constitute the diet chosen for us by our Creator. These foods, prepared in as simple and natural a manner as possible, are the most healthful and nourishing. They impart a strength, a power of endurance, and a vigor of intellect, that are not afforded by a more complex and stimulating diet" (CD 81). The green herbs of the field (vegetables) added blood-building chlorophyll and essential minerals to the diet. Man lived nearly 1,000 years on Diet #2.
DIET #3 - "Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things. But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat" (Gen. 9:3, 4). "God gave man no permission to eat animal food until after the flood. Everything had been destroyed upon which man could subsist, and therefore the Lord in their necessity gave Noah permission to eat of the clean animals which he had taken with him into the ark. But animal food was not the most healthful article of food for man" (CD 373).
In Leviticus 11:1, 2: "The LORD spake unto Moses and to Aaron, saying unto them, Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, These are the beasts which ye shall eat among all the beasts that are on the earth." God gave His chosen people specific dietary guidelines of what animals are clean and edible and which animals are unclean and inedible. The Israelites were also prohibited from eating the blood or fat of a clean animal. In my video message below, I make it clear on exactly why God prohibited swine's flesh, shellfish, blood, and fat as part of the Israelite's diet.
"Those who eat flesh are but eating grains and vegetables second hand; for the animal receives from these things the nutrition that produces growth. The life that was in the grains and vegetables passes into the eater. We receive it by eating the flesh of the animal. How much better to get it direct, by eating the food that God provided for our use" (CD 113).
DIET #4 - God rained manna from heaven to sustain His people as they wandered in the wilderness 40 years to the Promise Land. "And [He] had rained down manna upon them to eat, and had given them of the corn of heaven. Man did eat angels' food: he sent them meat to the full" (Ps. 78:24, 25).
God is leading modern Israel to the Promise Land today, and we need to learn from the lessons and mistakes of the past (1 Corinthians 10:11). The children of Israel cried out for flesh and despised the vegan diet that God had provided for their good. The thousands of rebellious Israelites who gorged on the quail (flesh) died of a great plague (Exodus 11:32, 33). Here is one of the greatest lessons on temperance in the Bible and it is especially applicable to our day, as you will see in my video message below.
"Moses preached a great deal on this subject, and the reason the people did not go through to the promised land was because of repeated indulgence of appetite. Nine tenths of the wickedness among the children of today is caused by intemperance in eating and drinking. Adam and Eve lost Eden through the indulgence of appetite, and we only regain it by the denial of the same" (Review and Herald, Oct. 21, 1884).
"Every church needs a clear, sharp testimony, giving the trumpet a certain sound. If we can arouse the moral sensibilities upon the subject of practicing temperance in all things, a very great victory will be gained" (Manuscript 59, 1900).
DIET #5 - I am not going to tell you what Diet #5 is, because I want you to watch the video below and find the answer for yourself. The message is powerful and just might touch you in ways you would never expect. I am certain you will want to share the timely health message with others.
