The Bible and Homosexuality
Greetings!
This week I received a phone call from Ron at Sacramento Faith TV, and boy was he excited. "Danny," he said, "Your last show, Health Reform and the Second Coming, stirred up a hornet's nest. Pastors from other denominations, especially from the Presbyterian Church, were up-in-arms over what you said about homosexuality. I don't see anything wrong with what you shared--you just quoted the Bible." (video below)
So what did I say that caused the evangelical leaders to voice a protest? I quoted one of the four gospel writers who said: "As it was in the days of Noe [Noah], so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all. Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all. Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed" (Luke 17:26-30).
What happened in Sodom? Luke said: "they married wives, and "they were given in marriage." Since the passage is referring to Sodom, is it fair to conclude that they engaged in sodomy, and, possibly, gay marriages as well? The newspaper headline that I flashed before the 1,000 in attendance told the story -- Gay Marriages in California.
Sodomy, according to Webster's Dictionary, is defined as "anal or oral copulation with the same or opposite sex." Webster's states, in regards to the Origin of Sodomy, the following: "Middle English, from Anglo-French sodomie, from Late Latin, sodoma Sodom; from the homosexual proclivities of the men of the city in Genesis 19:1-11."
The Apostle Paul, in Romans 1, wrote: "For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet. ... Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them."
"The exact definition can vary from state to state, but sodomy has broadly been defined as a sexual 'crime against nature' -- a phrase echoed by then Chief Justice Warren Burger in 1986, when the Supreme Court upheld a Georgia anti-sodomy law in Bowers v. Hardwick. In the United States, that language dates back to a 1697 Massachusetts law that forbade 'the detestable and abominable sin of beggary [anal sex] with mankind or beast, which is contrary to the very light of nature'" (Slate, Dec. 10, 2002).
Just because the current Chief Justices of the Supreme Court of the United States have changed their opinion about sodomy and homosexuality, by legalizing gay marriages, doesn't mean God has changed. The Bible says: "Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever" (Hebrews 13:8). Furthermore, in the first chapter of the first book in the Bible it says: "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth" (Genesis 1:27, 28). What stronger argument can there ever be against homosexuality? Anal sex and sodomy can never "multiply" the race or "replenish the earth." The very act is an abomination to God. But "the Lord ... is longsuffering ..., not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance" (2 Pet. 3:9). Now Watch Health Reform and the Second Coming here.
