We prayed for seven students to attend our first medical missionary school, and that is exactly what God gave us! On October 18, seven students came from all over the world -- Singapore, Australia, Canada, Georgia, Michigan, Indiana, and California -- to attend R I S E N, and become the first Certified Natural Hygiene Coaches in the world! Imagine a medical missionary school where the students are taught how to minister to the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of a person. R I S EN is an acronym for Remedial and Integrated School of Evangelism and Naturopathy.

    You may ask, "Why Natural Hygiene Coaches?" It is because the hygienic method of healing is what God showed Ellen G. White as the true medical missionary work. "Hygiene is properly defined as that branch of biology which designates the conditions upon which health depends, the means by which it may be sustained in all its virtue and purity while we have it, and the means upon which its restoration rests when we have lost it. ... It is the scientific application of the principles of nature in the preservation and restoration of health. Hygienic means health preserving. Practically, it implies the observance of the laws of life" (Herbert Shelton, an authority on Natural Hygiene).

    Ellen White agrees: "Our heavenly Father sees the deplorable condition of men who, many of them ignorantly, are disregarding the principles of hygiene. And it is in love and pity to the race that he causes the light to shine upon health reform. He publishes his law and its penalties, in order that all may learn what is for their highest good. He proclaims his law so distinctly, and makes it so prominent, that it is like a city set on a hill. All intelligent beings can understand it if they will. ... To make natural law plain, and to urge obedience to it, is a work that accompanies the third angel's message" (CTBH 9).

    The messenger of the Lord wrote frequently and specifically about hygiene. She talks about hygienic food (AH 501), hygienic cooking (CME 36), hygienic restaurants (CME 21), hygienic cooking schools (CTBH 119), hygienic dressmaking (CG 357), hygienic measures (CH 376), hygienic living (CD 296), hygienic reform (CTBH 56), hygienic practice (CH 247), hygienic treatment (CH 171), and hygienic institutions (CH 255). 

   "Canvassers should be able to give instruction in regard to the treatment of the sick. They should learn the simple methods of hygienic treatment. (CEv 18). "Depend more upon hygienic agencies; then nature will respond to God's physicians--pure air, pure water, proper exercise, and a clear conscience" (CCh 105).

      "The Health Retreat was established at a great cost to treat the sick without drugs. It should be conducted on hygienic principles. Drug medication should be worked away from as fast as possible, until entirely discarded. Education should be given on proper diet, dress, and exercise. Not only should our own people be educated, but those who have not received the light upon health reform should be taught how to live healthfully, according to God's order" (CD 406).

     On many occasions, the prophet of the Lord spoke about the impurities of the body and the need for the use of simple and natural hygienic remedies to cleanse the system. Let's look at a few of these statements now.

   "The impurities of the body, if not allowed to escape, are taken back into the blood and forced upon the internal organs. Nature, to relieve herself of poisonous impurities, makes an effort to free the system. This effort produces fevers and what is termed disease. But even then, if those who are afflicted would assist nature in her efforts by the use of pure, soft water, much suffering would be prevented. But many, instead of doing this, and seeking to remove the poisonous matter from the system, take a more deadly poison into the system, to remove a poison already there" (Counsels on Health, p. 61).

     "Shall physicians continue to resort to drugs, which leave a deadly evil in the system, destroying that life which Christ came to restore? Christ's remedies cleanse the system. But Satan has tempted man to introduce into the system that which weakens the human machinery, clogging and destroying the fine, beautiful arrangements of God. The drugs administered to the sick do not restore, but destroy. Drugs never cure. Instead, they place in the system seeds which bear a very bitter harvest (The Place of Herbs in Rational Therapy, p. 144)

     "The only hope of better things is in the education of the people in right principles. Let physicians teach the people that restorative power is not in drugs, but in nature. Disease is an effort of nature to free the system from conditions that result from a violation of the laws of health. In case of sickness, the cause should be ascertained. Unhealthful conditions should be changed, wrong habits corrected. Then nature is to be assisted in her effort to expel impurities and to re-establish right conditions in the system" (Ministry of Healing, p. 12).

    The Natural Hygiene Revolution arose as a reform out of the standard medical practice of the early 1800's. The whole medical system was in a state of chaos. The time was ripe for a change. The revolution began in France in the nineteenth century where physicians discarded drugs and relied on nature and good nursing for restoring the sick to health. Early American reformers derived their ideas from British teachers (I will write more about Natural Hygiene and Its History in the next Elijah Prophecy).

    The Natural Hygiene Revolution is moving forward! At a time when our healthcare system is the third leading cause of death in this country (JAMA 2000), God's natural healing message and methods will be proclaimed by seven new Natural Hygiene Coaches, from Singapore to Australia!

   At R I S E N, Natural Hygiene Coaches received hours of training in the Eight Laws of Health, massage, hydrotherapy, herbal medicine and nutritional supplements, how to use poultices and packs, how to cleanse and detoxify the seven elimination organs of the body, how to make delicious live juices, 20 hours of detailed raw food preparation and instruction, and how to open and operate their own lifestyle home or center. As directed by God, the students simultaneously received instruction in Bible studies, evangelism, canvassing door-to-door and handing out books and tracks, and doing community outreach, such as feeding 170 homeless men at the homeless shelter in Stockton, CA.

   Jesus said: "Teach all nations" ... "to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you" (Matthew 28:19, 20)." And what example did He give us: "And Jesus went about all Galilee, TEACHING in their synagogues, and PREACHING the gospel of the kingdom, and HEALING all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people" (Matthew 4:23; emphasis mine).

   There is no other school like R I S E N!  The students are thoroughly trained in both the medical missionary work and the gospel. "No line is to be drawn between the genuine medical missionary work and the gospel ministry. These two must blend. They are not to stand apart as separate lines of work. They are to be joined in an inseparable union, even as the hand is joined to the body. Those in our institutions are to give evidence that they understand their part in the genuine gospel medical missionary work. A solemn dignity is to characterize genuine medical missionaries. They are to be men who understand and know God and the power of His grace" (Letter 102, 1900).

    "The work of health reform will reveal its God-given power. Under the influence of the gospel, great reforms will be made by medical missionary work. But separate medical missionary work from the gospel, and the work will be crippled" (CD 75).

      Daniel Jr. did a great job in presenting the details for operating your own lifestyle home. He lectured on how to stock the home or center with supplies and inventory, making schedules and scheduling staff, and what forms to send out. The two of us shared on legalities and the importance of combining the messages of health, a sound mind, and spirituality into one.    

      Charmaine did a fabulous job training the students in raw food preparation. She is a certified raw chef and graduate of the world-renowned Living Light Culinary Institute. The students learned knife skills,

how to use a dehydrator, and how to prepare wholesome and delicious meals with the live enzymes and vital force still preserved. She also gave a presentation on Faith-Based Community Outreach on how you can work with your local church and community. She shared examples such as non-smoking clinics, vegan cooking classes, health lectures, guest speakers, CHIP programs, and more.

   Besides having guest speakers give different demonstrations on various types of massage, I gave several practical demonstrations on how to do hydrotherapy. I taught the students how to use a colloidal silver solution and water mixture in a Nedi pot for sinus problems, aromatherapy and steam inhalation using eucalyptus and other essential oils for congestion, hot and cold fomentations for lung congestion, hot foot baths for headaches, ice packs for pain, hot and cold showers for circulation, coldsheet treatments for increasing white blood cells and immunity, saunas and cold showers with skin brushing, and how to do a Russian steam bath.

    One of my favorite presentations was on colon cleansing. I had everything on display from prune juice to a colonic machine. I talked about herbal cleansers, children's colon cleansers, seawater and Epson salt flushes, castor oil by mouth or rectally, enema bags and buckets, Colema boards, and colonic machines (I hope to have a DVD available soon). I explained the why, when, and how to use the different colon cleansing treatments. I explained how to make a simple, soapy, hot water enema for plugged-up colons in an emergency. I showed the students the special 20-inch enema tube made of soft rubber that connects to a regular enema hose for an extension. The tip bends easily and the whole tip can safely be inserted into the bowel. This tip can be used for someone who has hardened stools that will not pass normally. Painkillers and opiate drugs can paralyze the colon and stop peristalsis or wave-like contractions of the bowel. The tip, when well-lubricated, can break through the fecal plug by simply moving it in and out of the colon. The soapy water enema solution can then be released above the blockage. This method is very effective and works fast. The slipperiness of the soap helps unblock the bowel without pain or discomfort.

    James, from Singapore, is so excited to open BellaVita Singapore. Mercy, an IV nurse who completed medical school in Mexico, is anxious to implement what she learned in the U.S. and abroad. Jan, from Canada, can't wait to share the information on Natural Hygiene in her country. Luba, who is an administrator at Avondale College, is very anxious to share the good news of health and hygienic principles with co-workers. Jenni, a wonderful mother, is so grateful for the knowledge so she can share it with family and friends. Eunice, the wife of a soon-to-be pastor, is excited about sharing the message with churches. Patti, a homemaker from Georgia, is very excited to share the health message and the gospel with friends, family, groups, and other Christians. 

       In closing, please ask God to send the Holy Spirit to help you understand the importance of the following paragraph from the Spirit of Prophecy: "We have come to a time when every member of the church should take hold of medical missionary work. The world is a lazar-house filled with victims of both physical and spiritual disease. Everywhere people are perishing for lack of a knowledge of the truths that have been committed to us. The members of the church are in need of an awakening, that they may realize their responsibility to impart these truths. Those who have been enlightened by the truth are to be lightbearers to the world. To hide our light at this time is to make a terrible mistake. The message to God's people today is, "Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the Lord is R I S E N upon thee" (LLM 342; emphasis mine).
