UPenn Recap, Stanford Conference, Houston Registration Now Open

Our first Patient Education Event of the Fall was a great success. The conference  featured experts in the field, patient panels, and the latest on neuroendocrine research. Those at home were able to submit questions in advance as well as view and participate in the webchat. Those at home could also follow along via our Twitter account: @curecarcinoid. We would like to thank the Abramson Center for co-hosting, and look forward to doing it again next year!

mTOR Pathway in NET Cancer

AACR_logoMatthew Kulke, MD from the Dana- Farber Institute recently published: Prognostic Significance of mTOR Pathway Component Expression in Neuroendocrine Tumors in the Journal of Clinical Oncology. The research was supported in part by the Caring for Carcinoid Foundation Pan Mass Challenge 2011 funds.

Dr. Kulke and his team evaluated the prognostic significance of components of the mTOR pathway in patients with neuroendocrine tumors. They found expression of the mTOR pathway to be associated with more aggressive neuroendocrine tumors.

They recommend further studies to evaluate mTOR as a potential biomarker for NET patients.

Team CFCF Summer Wrap-Up
Team Caring for Carcinoid Foundation has been busy running, walking, and biking across the United States to raise funds for reseach and awareness of neuroendocrine cancers. Here are some of the highlights of the amazing successes over these warm summer months:
  • Training Ride Group PicThe Pan-Mass Challenge cyclists in Massachusetts have continued to set a high bar for dedication to discovering better treatments and eventual cures for carcinoid, raising over $205,000. Thank you again!
  •  Prospect Transportation and Alternative Fuels Transportation hosted their second annual Walk With Chuck in May. This 10-mile walk through Bergen County honored the memory of Charlie Eichholz.  Despite a very rainy day the crowd attracted a huge crowd that raised over $12,000!
  • Team CFCF/Walking With Jane followed the historic Boston Marathon route for the 2013 Jimmy Fund Walk. We would like to congratulate CFCF's partner Harry Proudfoot of the Walking With Jane Team. Harry and his team raised over $13,000 for research into NET cancer and educating primary care doctors. Many congrats to all who contributed and participated. Click here to view pictures from the event.
  • CFCF would like to give a round of applause to Jeanne Lambert in Fort Collins, Colorado for raising funds to support research through her annual Run For Hope.
