Knee Arthritis and Massage
Knee

When your knee hurts due to arthritic pain, there aren't often great options for treatment. One option worth considering is our Precision Neuromuscular Massage Therapy.
First, several different soft tissue conditions (those having to do with muscles) can present like much more serious knee conditions. Before doing something much more extensive and expensive, consider having one of the BWA staff do a session or two to see if it alleviates your pain.

Here is what the research suggests:

In a study in the Archives of Internal Medicine in 2006, the massage therapy group demonstrated significant improvements in the mean WOMAC global scores, pain, stiffness, and physical function domains and in the visual analog scale of pain assessment, range of motion in degrees, and time to walk 50 ft.

Another study investigating self-massage of the front of the leg found:

Self-massage intervention applied to the quadriceps muscle improved scores on reported pain, stiffness, physical function, and knee range of motion.

Even though the arthritic changes can't be changed, it may be possible that your pain can be lessened.  That is encouraging news!
