Saving the System So Much Money

Recently I have seen several new clients, all of which had seen many health providers previously. Each of these clients presented with classic musculoskeletal issues, but the previous treatment received was both extensive and very expensive. In a conversation with Brenda Nielsen from my staff, she too had seen several such cases this week. Both of us mused about how much money BWA $ has saved both the health care system and  individual clients over the years. There is no way to track this, but I would wager that it is a very significant sum of money.

In the end, our focus on Precision Neuromuscular Therapy treatment is about being efficient and effective. Not every pain is musculoskeltal in nature, and of the ones that are, PNMT will not help all of them. But, PNMT is extremely cost effective and there are few down sides to trying it. Why not do the simplest thing first?

In a conversation this week with a potential client who has nerve entrapment symptoms, he wanted to know if PNMT might help. The alternative presented to him is surgery.

"Can you guarantee me that this will help?" he asked.

"Call your doctor and ask if he/she will guarantee that surgery will fix this?" I replied.

"Good point," he admitted.

I explained to him that I have seen this problem before and have had numerous successes. Conversely, I have also had a few failures. There is no certainty, but we would know if PNMT is helping in about three sessions. If it does not work, he can always opt for surgery, and his doctor said that there is no time sensitivity to the surgery. If the Precision Neuromuscular Therapy does work, then thousands of dollars have been saved. If it does not, the three sessions are a very small price to pay.

Doesn't that just make sense?

The Trapezius
Trap

If we did statistical analysis of what muscle we most often treat, it would probably be the trapezius. There are two main reasons why the trapezius is so commonly involved:

1. This muscle is adversely affected by postural stress. Extended periods of sitting or reading overload this muscle.
2. This muscle is also very affected by emotional stress, much more so than other muscles.

Trigger points in the upper Trapezius can be the source of headaches, pain at the base of the head, behind the eye, or at the jaw. The work we do at BWA is ideally suited to address these trigger points.
Trap TrP

Here is a simple stretch you can do to help with trapezius tension:

Trapezius Stretch To stretch the right trapezius while sitting, put your right arm behind the back or grab hold of the chair. The purpose of this is only to keep the right shoulder from rising. With the left hand on your head, laterally flex your head to the left (pull your left ear to the left shoulder).
Look slightly to the right as you do this.

Repeat on the left side.
