With a new year comes new BAH rates! While the goal is to continue to reduce the BAH rates in order to have military personnel pay a percentage of housing expenses out of pocket, some rates did increase. Have you checked out to see what the BAH rates are for where you currently live or where you might be PCSing to?
In light of the effect changing housing allowances can have on military renters and landlords, we are sharing an article this month regarding what to do when the rental market exceeds your BAH allowance.

Thanks so much for helping with our listing. Our house rented quickly even though the "hit count" was low in this PCS off-season. However, it only takes one interested renter to seal the deal. I would like to provide a testimonial since we have exclusively used Military By Owner to advertise our house and have rented successfully every single time. The longest the house was empty was 3 months.

It's been over a year now since "Ketchupgate," the now infamousWashington Post article that decried both the sale of 15 types of ketchup in the commissary at Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall and the generous compensation that service members receive.
In collaboration with Syracuse University's Institute for Veterans and Military Families, Blue Star Families surveyed 6,200 military families for their annual Military Family Lifestyle Survey, helping to paint a portrait of the modern military family and the challenges it faces. The goal of the survey is to inform decision makers of a more holistic state of military families that what the DOD demographics survey can provide.
