As the summer months come to a close and students return to the classroom, we hope that our military families who relocated this summer are settling into their new duty station. For many military service members, orders were delayed this year, which means that a large number of our military families are still in a state of transition. Whether you are advertising a home or seeking military housing, MilitaryByOwner is an excellent resource for connecting with the military network.

We are thrilled to announce enhancements to our Business Advertising pages for the military-friendly professionals that advertise their services to our customers. Help Military Students Ease Into a New School Year

As a new school year begins for our military students, it is a time of great trepidation for parents as we worry and wonder how our kids will adjust and fit in to yet another new school.

Military children, on average, will move six to nine times during their K-12 educational years. While "milkids" are resilient and adaptive, new surroundings can create anxiety and stress that may have social, emotional or academic consequences.  As parents, it is difficult to watch our children struggle with transitions, but if we are able to identify the issues, relate to what our kids are going through and seek help from the resources that are available, then we can help our children thrive in their new environment.

Helpful Moving Tips for Military Families

Moving is stressful for everyone. But families in the Armed Forces often face additional hardships:

  • While civilian families might move every 10 years or so, the average military family moves every three years.
  • Often times, the spouse can't help with the move. He or she might be stationed somewhere else during the actual transition.
  • Military families aren't simply moving down the block or to another part of town. In many cases, they're moving to the other side of the country - or world.
In other words, you move farther, more frequently and with less help.

Two Alternative Income Property Ideas for Military Families

Many military families own a second home. If you bought a home at one duty station, received last-minute PCS orders with no time to sell, and wound up at a duty station where it's cheaper (on a short-term monthly basis) to own than it is to rent a home, you may have found yourself at least considering buying a second house while your first is happily rented. This situation is pretty normal in Military Land. For the creative entrepreneurial types, though, some alternative ideas for income properties do exist for military families, though some offer better options than others. The two we'll look at today are 1) vacation rentals, and 2) a rental suite.  We'd love to hear from you if any of you have tried either of these alternative income property ideas.
