We want to congratulate Alicia Hinds Ward who was named Military Spouse of the Year 2013 last week. The MIlitary Spouse Magazine event honors the amazing military spouses that not only support their warrior but the greater military community. Congratulations to Alicia and to all of the Branch and Installation Military Spouses of the Year.
As military members embark on the task of renting or selling their homes, we have two great articles to assist you this month. Reflecting on Life as a Military Wife
Yes, I called myself a "wife", as opposed to a "spouse", because today as we celebrate Military Spouse Appreciation Day, it occurred to me that during my life as a military wife we truly have evolved. Eighteen years ago when I married my Marine I was briefed on my duties as a member of the "Wives Club" and often worried when I heard it referred to as the "Knives Club", which thankfully I found to be unfounded.
In the early days of my Marine Corps life, I was surrounded by women who had followed their heart and embarked on a life supporting their husband and raising their children. There was comfort in finding other women who had set aside their aspirations to build a career of their own to support their warrior. I applaud the individuals that had the foresight to know that bringing these women together would be a force to be reckoned with. I believe their intent was to provide support during the long deployments from home, but what has evolved is a revolution.
