Is Your Home Ready for Winter?

Baby it's cold outside! With temperatures dipping down to lows not seen in many parts for nearly two years, many homeowners may have been caught off guard. Is your home ready to weather the frigid temperatures?
One commonly overlooked area of the home in the winter is the outside. Hose bibs and sprinkler systems that are your lifeblood in the summer can become a winter nightmare. If water is left in the pipes of your sprinkler system and hose bibs, it can freeze and burst pipes causing serious water damage and costly repairs to your sprinkler system. Turn off the water supply from inside the house and then open the valves to drain the remaining water. If it cannot gravity drain you may need to use an air compressor to blow out the remaining water. If you do not have access to an air compressor, call a local landscaping company as many offer this service for a minimal fee.

Most Servicemembers' thoughts turn to their loved ones and friends when they find out they are being deployed. It isn't easy being broken out of your daily routine. It is important your finances receive plenty of attention when you find out you are being deployed, although this is often easier said than done. The importance of being ready when you have to deploy cannot be stressed enough.
If You're Not Using It, Don't Pay For It
It never makes sense to pay for something you aren't using. Depending on how long you are going to be deployed, what seems like little savings could add up to a lot over time. Somewhere on your list of things to do should be to think about the fact that you won't be driving your car and that your cellphone will probably be useless where you are going.
