Bland Literacy
$20K Grant from VCU Helps Fund New Literacy Center in Petersburg  
       
A collaborative initiative between Virginia Commonwealth University, Virginia State University and Metropolitan Baptist Church is making possible the William N. Bland, Jr. Literacy Center. The Center's first class of 30 students will begin this fall. The students will receive after school homework help and literacy instruction two days a week. Students will use iPad Minis for instruction. The Center is being established as a 501c3 nonprofit organization and the program is modeled after the Peter Paul Development Center in Richmond.

To ensure that you are prepared and informed, be sure to attend an upcoming technology and reporting training for an overview of the event website, how to access real-time reports & more. Tuesday, September 4 from 10am - 11:30am in the Hopewell Library Computer Lab.  

   Newly designed and printed Amazing Raise poster are now available for pick up at the Cameron Foundation or you can print your own!
   The Cameron Foundation is hosting a Donor Lounge open to nonprofits that require technical assistance, donors who need help processing online gifts, or anyone who would like to join in the celebration!

Historic Cancer Research Study Enrolling in Petersburg 

The American Cancer Society's new research study, Cancer Prevention Study-3 (CPS-3) is looking to better understand the genetic, environmental and lifestyle factors that cause or prevent cancer.
Enrollment is focused in Petersburg and Chesterfield (as well as Farmville, South Hill, and Emporia). For more information contact Robert Noriega at (804) 527-3772 or at robert.noriega@cancer.org.

        Writing a good grant proposal is not easy! If you have the responsibility for preparing and writing grants at a nonprofit or social service organization, this learning club will provide you with a successful approach, constructive feedback, access to resources and a powerful network of relationships that can help you succeed in your role!
        In collaboration with the Grant Professionals Association, Central Virginia Chapter, Southside Community Partners is pleased to host a series of bi-weekly sessions from September to December 2013, designed to help writers of grants develop and advance their work in a friendly, supportive environment. This advanced beginner to intermediate level series develops the finer points of grant writing so that proposals will be more competitive.
