Collaborating for Fair Housing: Upcoming Southside Seminar
Do you know your rights regarding housing? Federal and state laws prohibit housing discrimination based on race, color, religion, national origin, sex, disability, and familial status. Virginia's Fair Housing Law also further protects "elderliness," individuals age 55 or older, from housing discrimination. To help you learn more, the Cities of Colonial Heights, Richmond, Hopewell and Petersburg along with Henrico and Chesterfield Counties are collaborating to bring a Fair Housing Seminar to Central Virginia. Mahalia Dryden-Mason with the Virginia Fair Housing Office will provide qualified Real Estate Continuing Education Credits and Fair Housing Certification training on state and federal fair housing laws which prohibit housing discrimination. Participants will also hear from keynote speaker Sylvia Berry, Director of the Office of Fair Housing & Equal Opportunity, Richmond Field Office, U.S. Dept. of Housing & Urban Development. Held at the Chesterfield County Fairgrounds Exhibition Hall, 10300 Courthouse Road, Chesterfield on May 29 from 9am - 12:30m, the seminar is free but registration is required. Please contact Tevya Griffen at (804) 541-2269 or email her at tgriffin@hopewellva.gov.
