Nonprofits Embrace Being More Human
The 2012 Social Media for Nonprofits Conference brought social media tools and strategy to over 100 nonprofit professionals and volunteers last week. Presented by ConnectVA 501 Tech Club and hosted at WCVE Community Idea Stations, this annual event featured nine engaging breakout sessions and a keynote presentation in which speaker Jamie Notter presented the case for why leadership is currently failing in our organizations. He stressed that like social media, management can succeed by being open, trustworthy generative and courageous - or what he terms in his book Humanize: How People-Centric Organization Succeed in a Social World as human principles. The new ConnectVA website was also unveiled during the conference, which provides our community with a platform to engage and share in a more human way.
