MCC's touch on Haiti;
Haiti's touch on MCC
Since the recent earthquake catastrophe in Haiti in January, all of us have been touched in some way, but some within our MCC family have experienced even more than the normal need to pray and give financially to the ravished country.
Kurt('88) and Stacy(attended) Mortensen and family pastor in OK City and have had a relationship with Haiti through short term mission trips for a while, but since the earthquake their lives have drastically changed as the orphan girl they sponsor suddenly needed a permanent home along with several others. Kurt and Stacy are now proud parents of 12 year old Widsherline. (photo above)
Brian Medaris (CE professor) and his wife Nikki (adjunct prof.) and 2 sons had just started the adoption process a couple months ago for 2 small Haitian boys, and were told it would be at least a 2 year process. After the earthquake, they found out that the boys were to become part of their family - now! As of mid-February, 1 year old John Peter and 3 year old Gregory are in Manhattan living with the Medaris family.
Nicole Long ('02) just returned from a trip to Haiti with the Global Orphan Project - a trip formed quickly in response to the crisis and tremendous need for the orphanages in the country. Supplies were taken, needs were met, and love was given to these children and workers so deeply affected.
Finally, one of our MCC students organized a "penny drive" for Haiti, and the student body raised $280.00 to be sent for relief help.
If you have something to share regarding ministry to the country of Haiti following the January disaster, please post a note on our MCC facebook alumni page! |
