PSAT TO ALL SOPHOMORES AND JUNIORS
FREE OF CHARGE!!

NUSD is excited to be administering the PSAT to all sophomores and juniors free of charge on Wednesday, October 14, at both Novato and San Marin High Schools during the school day.  This test is a pre-test for the new SAT being given beginning in March 2016. They test the same skills and knowledge as the SAT - in a way that makes sense for both grade levels. When students get their test results, they will be connected to College Board and
Khan Academy® accounts to get free personalized SAT study recommendations.

The PSAT is a great way to preview and practice for the SAT. Each student will receive an individual student score report, you can find an example here: https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/pdf/sample-psat-nmsqt-score-report.pdf In addition, the test results will let you know which AP courses students may be interested in. This will also help our schools grow their AP programs as we will have more information about students' strengths and interests. More details about the test administration will be sent home soon.
The PSAT, Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test, and the SAT, Scholastic Aptitude Test, are given a few times a year by the College Board.  The College Board is a mission-driven not-for-profit organization that connects student to college success and opportunity.  Many colleges and universities use these test results as one of multiple measures when reviewing a student's application.

October 14, 2015 MINIMUM DAY SCHEDULE
 see schedule below

CHAIR(S) FOR BLACK AND GOLD AUCTION NEEDED!
(PEOPLE, NOT FURNITURE!)

Do you love getting together with your friends and other parents to support Novato High School?

Do you want NHS PTSA to continue offering amazing programs like after school tutoring, scholarships, and classroom support?

Do you want NHS PTSA to continue to offer excellent resources such as the newly renovated library and other campus improvements?

The monies raised at the Black and Gold Auction are critical to funding the events and programs PTSA supports at NHS and we need your help!

Please consider helping the PTSA with this very important and special event.  We are envisioning a fun evening with dinner, a small silent auction, an exciting Fund a Need opportunity and an assortment of exclusive Pay to Play signups. Much of the groundwork has already been laid - we already have a strong team of experienced committee volunteers, as well as the site, an emcee, and entertainment. Our past chair has even graciously made herself available for consultation. We just need a new leader to step up (or leaders - grab a friend to help!) You could be the person to ensure this is another magical and memorable event and to help PTSA continue its programs for the year. Contact Beth DeWitt, PTSA President at or 415/234-6899 to start the conversation and make a difference in your high school community!

Free Sports at Dominican

Hello,

I hope the year is off to a great start for you and your families!  I am happy to share information about a great after school sports program for Marin middle and high school students offered by Dominican University of California.  This free sports program, being held in the new Dominican sports facility, Allen Athletics Complex, offers sports programs, sport clinics, and open gym time. Additionally, they offer transportation from Terra Linda and San Rafael high schools and possibly other central locations  Attached is the schedule in both English and Spanish.  The program currently runs from 3:30 to 5:30 on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

The program was for high schools students last year and they have now expanded middle student students.  All students from Marin are invited.  This is a great opportunity for kids to play sports and an especially good opportunity for families who may not be able to afford to pay for sports clinics or recreation programs for their kids.  Please share with the parents in your schools.

If you need additional information, please contact the Cory Hansen, the Coordinator, at cory.hansen@dominican.edu or feel free to contact my office if we can assist in any way.

Most Likely to Succeed Film

Benefit Film Screening: Most Likely to Succeed

On Monday, September 28, School Fuel and Speak to Me Events are co-hosting a screening of the movie Most Likely to Succeed at the Sinaloa Gym at 7:30 pm. This highly-acclaimed documentary looks at the history of our education model and goals in the U.S., and then focuses on one school's attempt to change the whole way we approach education using a project-based learning environment. The film immerses you in the lives of students and teachers at one school, High Tech High in San Diego, then tells you not to copy them. Instead, each school is encouraged to create its own learning environment, leveraging the passions, expertise, and aspirations of its community. We will be hosting a community discussion following the film. All proceeds from the screening benefit School Fuel. An online link to buy advance tickets is at www.speaktomeevents.com. Tickets are $10 in advance, and $15 at the door. You can view the movie trailer at mltsfilm.org. Please come join us for a powerful evening!
