The latest from Girls Lacrosse:
They say you can judge the character of a team by the way they play when they are losing by a lot or winning by a lot. Last week the NHS Lax team played Lick Wilmerding, a MCAL team with few experienced players - another "building" program in MCAL - and they won by a lot but maintained a respectful attitude the entire time on the field, made sure the less experienced players were getting the ball, and maintained their focus in preparation for Thursdays game against MC. I'll skip ahead to Friday's game to say that it was against a well-coached team from Texas with a very good goalie. Again, NHS Lax won by a lot, but took the game seriously from start to finish. The girls also were very proactive when a group of NHS students on the sideline were making derogatory remarks about the Texas players. The girls were not going to have it, and deserve credit for their sportsmanship making sure the coaches stopped that.
Now on to Thursday. WOW! The IJ covered the game and paid sufficient homage to what a big deal it was for Novato to beat Marin Catholic for the first time ever. As the article points out Coach Rory Daly has worked toward this for a long while as he started with a team that lost almost every game and could never dream of beating MC, an eternal powerhouse. Midway through the first half it was tied 1-1. A number of the girls said they had to shake off the nerves. They did just that, kept their focus and played with drive on both attack and defense. About fifteen minutes in they started to score and never looked back. The younger girls took their cues from the older girls and played with the same focus and drive (they decidedly DID NOT play like Freshmen) and in the end the score was 15-6, Novato.

The girls have a few MCAL games coming up and then will face extremely tough NCS opponents in Menlo, Amador Valley, California and St. Ignatius in the weeks that follow. They are currently 8-1, but will have their work cut out for them. They seem excited for the challenge.
A GIGANTIC Thank You to all of the NHS parents and students (with great signs!) who came to support the team at MC last week. What a great cheering section
