Girls Basketball  Results

The following was in the Marin IJ: "Sixth-seeded Antelope eliminated No. 11 Novato with a 77-48 win in the first round of the D-II girls NorCal basketball tournament. The Hornets finished the season 18-13.

"To go on the road and play teams of that caliber, and not have your leading scorer (Janea Early), it's going to be a challenge," Novato coach Scott Davis said. "They're bigger, they're stronger, they're faster and they shot the lights out."

Erin Nannery led the Hornets with 16 points, Julianna Campas had 10 and Vanessa Torres scored eight."

Congratulations on an Outstanding season. Novato is proud of you all!!

The following is from Christine Torres, parent of Vanessa Torres:

The Varsity girls basketball team played such an amazing season and it was so sad for it to end last week against Antelope.  But I must say, I am very proud of all the girls for their hard work on the courts all season.  They played some amazing teams this season and have to say had three really good coaches to boot.  This is the first time, and a record breaker, that the NHS Girls Varsity Basketball team has made it to the NorCal Section since 1995 and before that to State in (I belive 1986-87)?

I have attached a photo of their departure to the first NorCal game against Antelope. Final score Novato 48, Antelope 77.  Julianna Campus total scoring points for the evening 10,  Erin Nannery 16, and Vanessa Torres 8 points.  Each and every girl saw the court that evening.  What an amazing experience these girls had this season.  GO HORNETS!

Varsity Girls Softball: NHS 10  /  El Molino 4

Sam Spina's nine strikeouts pushed the Hornets easily past El Molino.  Spina went 4 - 4 against El Molino's pitching with singles in the 1st, 2nd, 5th and 7th innings.

Nine runs in the first three innings, including an RBI single by Zoe Hoover, an RBI single by Spina, and a groundout by Kambria Chipman, 2 steals of home by Sarah Bailey and Libby Petersen, and a bases loaded walk scored by Bonnie Coulman in fueled the Hornets' offense early.

JV soccer:

Our NHS JV girls just opened the soccer season this evening at Drake. It ended up a 0-4 loss but one of my players summed up the game in saying "I think this might sound weird, but I feel like we won"

The girls played their heart out and even though Drake was a much stronger team, they had to work to get the 4 goals.

Girls Lacrosse

Wow! It has been quite a start for the Hornet girls lax!  The team is made up of a cadre of veteran players who have been standouts in MCAL over the past few years, along with a wave of Freshmen and Sophmore players who have lots of lacrosse under their belts. After an unsettled and sloppy first game against current 2nd place NCS team San Ramon Valley, which the girls lost 6-10, they have been on a 5 -win streak.  The second game was against perennial rival Granite Bay, a team with several players committed to D1 colleges.  After the unfortunate first loss, the team was eager to prove what they were made of.  The young group of Freshmen made their true debut and showed the world they belong on a high school field.  The win was authoritative and showcased a newly-integrated Novato girls lax team.

The next team to come to Novato has a HUGE reputation, not only in NCS, but in the Lacrosse world nation-wide.  Carondolet has won NCS several times over the past years, and is often mentioned as a top 10 team of the West in Lacrosse Magazine.  Novato achieved what is certainly the biggest upset to date by fighting from the first whistle to the last and beating Carondolet 10-8.

Crosstown rival San Marin is a building program.  Novato girls won easily but with the scoring help of players like Destanee Tvedten, who has never played lacrosse before this year!

The next two games, against Oak Ridge (12-9) and Foothill Pleasanton (20-7), were wins as well, significant because of the wide range of players notching assists, goals, turnovers, draw controls, ground balls, and, in the case of freshman Katie McGrath, goalie saves.

The team has integrated very quickly and their hard work at practice shows on the field.  The HUGE game this week is Novato vs. Marin Catholic.  The team has been 2nd to MC in MCAL the past few years and is determined to change history ASAP.

PLEASE COME TO MARIN CATHOLIC TO SUPPORT THE TEAM this Thursday 3/19 at 4pm!!!

Track Results from  Saturday.

Over at the East Bay Invitational, Shajana Steele took 1st place in both shot put and the discus. Colton Carry took 2nd place in the f/s shot put while Collin Everingham took 3 place in the f/s discus.

At the Twilight Relays in San Rafael, The girls sprint relay ( Kelsey Ryan, Avery Flieder, Pillar Herrera, and Nia Whitlock ) took 5th place out of 59 teams and the coed 4 x 200 (Kelsey, Pillar Herrera, Joe Hunter, and Allan Friedman ) took 5th place out of 74 teams.

Mountain Biking Club

NHS 1st Mountain Bike Race of the 2015 Season

On Sunday, March 1st, thirteen NHS Mountain Bike Team riders competed in their first NorCal Race of the season at Fort Ord, near Monterey Bay.  All the student athletes rode hard and had a great time.  The course was laid out in a five mile loop with about 500 feet of elevation gain in each lap.  Thank you to the excellent coaching from Coach Chuck Cone!

Many students and parents may not realize that NHS has a mountain biking team, which currently has 14 riders.   They practice three days a week on the trails of Novato and Marin County.  They practice with San Marin High School but compete separately at races.

Here is the recap from the March 1st  race:

Blake Colyer, freshman, placed 2nd out of 44 Division 2 Freshman Boy riders.  Great job to Blake and to fellow Freshman Boy racers ---Mason Koonce (12th), Brendan Willhelmsen (15th), Scott Slovensky (34th), Caleb Jerinic-Brodeur (40th), and Sage Ferguson (42nd).  Ashley Peach placed 19th in the Freshman Girls division among 24 riders.  In the Sophomore Boys D2 division Aiden Camp placed 40th of 53 riders. Arianna Chyrklund placed 11th out of 29 girls in the Sophomore Girls division. We also had 4 JV boys competing in the D2 division with 75 riders-Joey Rempe (15th), Chris Sanford (34th), Cooper Cone (50th), and Jacob Fuette (62nd).   Strong riding from all our mountain bikers!

Here are a few Pic's of the team in ACTION!!!

This is a quick note from our Registrar Jeanie Olian. Any ATHLETE that still needs a PE waiver from Previous years, must take care of those waivers immediately. They will need to be sure to get an "old form" from her in order to do so. Next year, NO ONE will be able to apply previous sports to the current year. Please be sure to see her if you have any questions.
