China's Legislature Annual Session Closes

The National People's Congress (NPC), China's legislature, concluded its annual session Wednesday morning. Zhang Dejiang, chairman of the NPC Standing Committee who presided over the closing meeting, said the session reviewed and approved the outline of the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-2020) on economic and social development, which requires the implementation of the concept of innovative, coordinated, green, open and shared development.

China Steps Forward in Sci. & Tech. Innovation

Minister of Science and Technology Wan Gang told media Thursday morning that China has made a step forward in science and technology innovation. In the future, new measures will be carried out in line with the 13th Five-Year Plan. Led by key projects in science and technology innovation 2030, China is to cultivate continuing innovation capability.

Xi Underlines Innovation, Reform in Defense, Military Upgrade

Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, on Sunday highlighted theoretical and technological innovation as the key to upgrade the country's military and national defense. Speaking to national lawmakers from the military at the ongoing annual parliamentary session, Xi said the future of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) hinged on innovation and reform. He urged the armed forces to fully implement the innovation-driven development strategy, place combat capacity at the center of all their work, and step up theoretical and technological innovation.
