Arms Control and the New U.S.-Russian Tension
Eryn MacDonald, All Things Nuclear
September 23, 2015

President Obama noted in his speech announcing the agreement with Iran, "you don't make deals like this with your friends."

Now that the Iran agreement is done, it would behoove U.S. officials to keep that sentiment in mind when it comes to Russia.

Fast Neutron Reactors
World Nuclear Association
October 2015

Fast neutron reactors are a technological step beyond conventional power reactors, but are poised to become mainstream. They offer the prospect of vastly more efficient use of uranium resources and the ability to burn actinides which are otherwise the long-lived component of high-level nuclear wastes.

Iran's Invisible Opportunity
Amory B. Lovins, Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists
September 30, 2015

At the eye of the storm over the Iran agreement is a zone of silence-an almost unnoticed opportunity to raise the odds of success. On the Iranian side, wisely using the period of restrictions on potential military nuclear activities could help Iran shift its domestic electricity priorities from a failed nuclear power program to a world-class, faster-to-implement, and vastly cheaper program that combines energy efficiency, modern renewables, and advances in the electrical grid.

New Terminology to Help Prevent Accidental Nuclear War
Steven Starr, Robin Collins, Robert Green, and Ernie Regehr, Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists
September 29, 2015

Fear of a disarming nuclear strike, especially during a crisis, creates immense pressure to use-or-lose nuclear forces if an attack is detected. Launch-ready ballistic missiles allow opposing sides to launch a counter-strike before nuclear detonations confirm whether or not the perceived "nuclear attack" is real, the launch of a retaliatory strike would in reality be a preemptive nuclear first-strike, should the warning prove to be false-resulting in accidental nuclear war.
