Abe Fellowship Program

The Abe Fellowship is designed to encourage international multidisciplinary research on topics of pressing global concern. The program seeks to foster the development of a new generation of researchers who are interested in policy-relevant topics of long-range importance and who are willing to become key members of a bilateral and global research network built around such topics. It strives especially to promote a new level of intellectual cooperation between the Japanese and American academic and professional communities committed to and trained for advancing global understanding and problem solving. Applicants are invited to submit proposals for research in the social sciences or the humanities relevant to any one or any combination of the following four themes:
1. Threats to Personal, Societal and International Security 2. Growth and Sustainable Development 3. Social, Scientific, and Cultural Trends and Transformation 4. Governance, Empowerment, and Participation
Mote Marine Laboratory College Intern Scholarships

Mote Marine Laboratory scholarships are intended to provide partial support for living expenses for a full-time, 10 or 14 week internship. The amount of each scholarship will vary according to intern financial need, internship duration and the number of recipients. Mote College Internship scholarships are available to students participating in all Mote College Intern Programs except the Mote REU Program, which provides paid research internships through funding from the National Science Foundation.
National Endowment for the Humanities Enduring Questions Course Development

The NEH Enduring Questions grant program supports faculty members in the preparation of a new course on a fundamental concern of human life as addressed by the humanities. This question-driven course would encourage undergraduates and teachers to join together in a deep and sustained program of reading in order to encounter influential ideas, works, and thinkers over the centuries. The course is to be developed by one or more (up to four) faculty members at a single institution, but not team taught. The grant supports the work of faculty members in designing, preparing, and assessing the new course. It may also be used for ancillary activities that enhance faculty-student intellectual community, such as visits to museums and artistic or cultural events. See website for full details.
UC MEXUS Dissertation Research Grants 09/14/2015
UC MEXUS grants for support of dissertation research or MFA final projects by University of California graduate students is available in the areas of Mexico-Related Studies-All Disciplines; Latino Studies; U.S.-Mexican Relations; Critical U.S.-Mexico Issues; Mexican and Latino Topics in the Arts and Humanities. Projects funded are expected to lead to the completion of dissertations or MFA degrees in these areas.

The Abe Fellowship for Journalists is designed to encourage in-depth coverage of topics of pressing concern to the United States and Japan through individual short-term policy-related projects. Applicants are invited to submit proposals on one of the four themes below. 1. Threats to Personal, Societal and International Security 2. Growth and Sustainable Development 3. Social, Scienctific, and Cultural Trends and Transformation 4. Governance, Empowerment, and Participation Fellows are expected to produce an analytical article or feature story that will inform public debate or a policy community.
American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS) Collaborative Research Awards 09/23/2015
ACLS invites applications for the inaugural competition for the ACLS Collaborative Research Awards. These awards support collaborative research in the humanities and related social sciences. It is hoped that projects of successful applicants will help demonstrate the range and value of both collaborative research and inquiry in the humanities, and model how such collaboration may be carried out successfully. Collaborations that involve the participation of assistant and associate faculty members, or that of scholars at different kinds of institutions, are particularly encouraged.
California Sea Grant State Fellowship 09/24/2015
The California Sea Grant State Fellows Program provides a unique educational opportunity for graduate students who are interested in marine resources and the policy decisions affecting those resources in California. The State Fellows Program provides an opportunity to acquire "on the job" experience in the planning and implementation of marine and coastal resource policies and programs in the state of California. The program matches highly motivated and qualified graduate students and recent graduates with "hosts" in state or federal agencies in California for a 12-month paid fellowship.
American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS) Fellowships 09/25/2015
The ACLS Fellowship Program invites research applications in all disciplines of the humanities and humanities-related social sciences. The ultimate goal of the project should be a major piece of scholarly work by the applicant. The fellowships are intended as salary replacement to help scholars devote six to twelve continuous months to full-time research and writing. Up to 25 fellowships will be available at the Assistant Professor level, up to 20 at the Associate Professors level, and up to 20 at the full Professor level.
Michigan Society of Fellows Postdoctoral Fellowships 09/29/2015
The Michigan Society of Fellows was established in 1970. The most distinctive aspect of the Society is a multidisciplinary emphasis which gives its fellows an opportunity to interact across disciplines and to expand their horizons and knowledge. While their own scholarship is enriched, the fellows also enrich the University of Michigan through teaching during their residency and bringing new insights to other faculty members. Eight fellows are selected each year.
Fritz Thyssen Foundation Project Support 09/30/2015
Support of projects by the Fritz Thyssen Foundation focuses on scholars in the humanities, social science and biomedicine fields. Proposals for work are accepted in a limited number of fields. See the website for full details. Interdisciplinary projects are also welcomed. The board meets twice a year to review proposals and make decisions.
Northeast Asia Council (NEAC) AAS Northeast Asia Council Korean Studies Grants 10/01/2015
The Northeast Asia Council of the Association for Asian Studies (AAS), in conjunction with the Korea Foundation, offers a grant program in Korean studies designed to assist the research of individual scholars based in North America, to improve the quality of teaching about Korea on both the college and pre-college levels, and to integrate the study of Korea into the major academic disciplines. Grants are available in several categories for research travel, workshops and conferences, and projects that enhance Korean Studies teaching.
German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) Research Stays for University Academics and Scientists 10/01/2015
DAAD offers grants for one to three months in all academic disciplines to scholars at U.S. and Canadian institutions of higher education to pursue research at universities, libraries, archives, institutes or laboratories in Germany. The aim of this program is to support short-term research stays and thus promote the exchange of experience and networking among colleagues.
Weatherhead Center for International Affairs Harvard Academy for International Area Studies Academy Scholars Program 10/01/2015
The Academy Scholars Program identifies and supports outstanding scholars at the start of their careers whose work combines disciplinary excellence in the social sciences (including history and law) with a command of the language, history, or culture of non-Western countries or regions. Their scholarship may elucidate domestic, comparative, or transnational issues, past or present. The Academy Scholars are a select group of individuals who show promise of becoming leading scholars at major universities. They are appointed and supported by the Harvard Academy for International and Area Studies to provide opportunities for advanced work at Harvard University.
German Historical Institute Doctoral and Postdoctoral Fellowships 10/01/2015
The GHI awards short-term fellowships to German and American doctoral students as well as postdoctoral scholars in the fields of German history, the history of German-American relations, and the history of the role of Germany and the USA in international relations. These fellowships are also available to German doctoral students and postdoctoral scholars in the field of American history. We especially invite applications from doctoral students and postdoctoral scholars who currently do not receive funding from their home institutions. The research projects must draw upon primary sources located in the United States.

This fellowship is open to recent graduates (at the Master's level) in the fields of law, journalism, international relations, or other relevant studies. Graduates with LL.B. degrees or advanced degrees in other relevant disciplines may also be considered. |
