Marshall D. Shulman Book Prize

The Marshall D. Shulman Book Prize, sponsored by the Harriman Institute of Columbia University, is awarded annually for an outstanding monograph dealing with the international relations, foreign policy, or foreign-policy decision-making of any of the states of the former Soviet Union or Eastern Europe published the previous year. The prize is dedicated to the encouragement of high-quality studies of the international behavior of the countries of the former Communist Bloc. The Shulman Book Prize carries a cash award and is presented in November at the ASEEES annual convention.

Davis Center Book Prize in Political and Social Studies

The Davis Center Book Prize in Political and Social Studies, established in 2008 and sponsored by the Kathryn W. and Shelby Cullom Davis Center for Russian and Eurasian Studies at Harvard University, is awarded annually for an outstanding monograph published on Russia, Eurasia, or Eastern Europe in anthropology, political science, sociology, or geography in the previous calendar year. American Society for Microbiology Fellowships

Students, postdoctoral fellows, and early and mid-career scientists are eligible for fellowships to conduct research and participate in activities that encourage professional growth in a new area. Funds may be available for stipends, housing, travel, and ASM membership. Multiple fellowships are available with multiple deadlines. Edgar S. Furniss Book Award

The Mershon Center for International Security Studies gives the Edgar S. Furniss Book Award to an author whose first book makes an exceptional contribution to the study of national and international security. The award commemorates the founding director of the Mershon Center, Edgar S. Furniss. The winning author receives a cash award and is invited to address the Mershon Center. The award committee will consider any work that makes a theoretical and policy impact on our understanding any of the following themes: 1) The use of force and diplomacy; 2) The ideas, identities, and decisional processes that affect security; 3) The institutions that manage violent conflict. Nominations are for books copyrighted in the previous year.

American Historical Association Book Prizes and Awards

Helen and Howard R. Marraro Prize

The late Howard R. Marraro made bequests to the American Historical Association, the American Catholic Historical Association, and the Society for Italian Historical Studies for the purpose of establishing by each society a Helen and Howard R. Marraro Prize in Italian history. Each award will be given for the book or article deemed best by the committee and published between May 1 and April 30 of the previous year that treats Italian history in any epoch, Italian cultural history, or Italian-American relations.

German Historical Institute Fritz Stern Dissertation Prize

Each year the Friends of the German Historical Institute award the Fritz Stern Dissertation Prize for the two best doctoral dissertations submitted in German history, German-American relations, or the history of Germans in North America. Environmental Protection Agency Science to Achieve Results Fellowships for Graduate Environmental Study

The program offers graduate fellowships for masters and doctoral level students in environmental fields of study. The Fellowship Program provides up to $44,000 per year of support per fellowship. Master's level students may receive a maximum of two years of support ($88,000). Doctoral students may be supported for a maximum of three years ($132,000), usable over a period of five years. Applications are welcomed from students studying any academic discipline to the extent that the particular topic of proposed research is related to EPA's mission and germane to one of the funding authorities listed in the RFA. This includes students studying in ecology, economics, engineering, modeling, the health sciences, physical sciences, earth sciences, exposure sciences, social sciences, informational sciences, mathematical and computer sciences, and environmental sciences. Applications are also welcomed from students who have not traditionally participated in environmental conversations or research, including those that attend Minority Academic Institutions (MAIs). Environmental Protection Agency Greater Research Opportunities (GRO) Fellowships for Undergraduate Environmental Study

The EPA, as part of its Greater Research Opportunities Fellowships program, is offering undergraduate fellowships for bachelor level students in environmental fields of study. Eligible students will receive support for their junior and senior years of undergraduate study and for an internship at an EPA facility during the summer of their junior year. The fellowship provides up to $20,700 per academic year of support and $8,600 of support for a three-month summer internship. See website for full details.

UC MEXUS is pleased to announce a competition for support of University of California graduate student and postdoctoral researcher activities in all disciplines as related to academic exchange, research training, and scholarly development in areas of interest to UC MEXUS. These areas include Mexico-related studies in all academic fields from the sciences to the arts, Latino Studies, and critical issues of common concern to the United States and Mexico. Proposals are encouraged for small short-term projects of one week to six months that will advance the applicants' projects, research training, or academic understanding of their fields. The funding is intended for student and postdoctoral support only; requests to supplement faculty or other researchers' activities will not be considered. Requests for continuations or additional support for previously funded projects are discouraged.

Mote Marine Laboratory College Intern Scholarships

Mote Marine Laboratory is pleased to announce the availability of a limited number of scholarships for bright and deserving students participating in the Mote College Intern Program. These scholarships are intended to provide partial support for living expenses for a full-time, 10- or 14-week internship. The amount of each scholarship will vary according to intern financial need, internship duration, and the number of recipients. Mote College Internship scholarships are available to students participating in all Mote College Intern Programs except the Mote REU Program, which provides paid research internships through funding from the National Science Foundation.

Property and Environment Research Center (PERC) Graduate Fellowships

PERC's fellowships for graduate students and law students offer the ideal opportunity for those who are interested in researching issues related to natural resources and the environment. Graduate fellows spend three months at PERC in Bozeman, Montana, researching and writing a paper under the supervision of a PERC senior fellow. While at PERC, fellows are required to present two workshops to outline, report on, and summarize their research findings. A paper of publishable quality is the expected result.

The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities is one of the leading organizations in the country working on public policy issues affecting low-income families and individuals. The Center specializes in research and analysis oriented toward practical policy decisions and produces solid analytic reports on a timely basis that are accessible to public officials at national, state and local levels, to nonprofit organizations and to the media. The Center seeks highly motivated undergraduate and graduate students (including law), as well as recent graduates, in the following areas for full-and part-time paid internships: Media, Federal Legislation, Health Policy, Housing Policy, International Budget Project, Food Stamps, National Budget and Tax Policy, Outreach Campaigns, State Fiscal Project and Welfare Reform and Income Support Division (see internship descriptions on website). The typical length of an internship is one semester (approximately 10-12 weeks). The positions are designed to reflect an intern's interests in conjunction with the Center's needs and the legislative climate. Women's Policy Inc. Congressional Fellowships on Women and Public Policy

Women's Policy, Inc. is the home for the Congressional Fellowships on Women and Public Policy. The residential fellowships are extended each year to a select number of students pursuing a graduate degree or those who have recently completed a master's, doctorate, or professional degree with a proven commitment to equity for women. Fellows gain practical policymaking experience and graduate credit as they work from January to August in congressional offices. Fellows receive stipends toward living expenses.

Smith Richardson Foundation

Strategy and Policy Fellows Program

The annual Strategy and Policy Fellows grant competition supports young scholars and policy thinkers on American foreign policy, international relations, international security, military policy, and diplomatic and military history. The purpose of the program is to strengthen the U.S. community of scholars and researchers conducting policy analysis in these fields. The Foundation will award at least three research grants of $60,000 each to enable the recipients to research and write a book. Within the academic community, this program supports junior or adjunct faculty, research associates, and post-docs who are engaged in policy-relevant research and writing. Within the think tank community, the program supports members of the rising generation of policy thinkers who are focused on U.S. strategic and foreign policy issues. Applicants must be an employee or affiliate of either an academic institution or a think tank. The fellowship program will only consider single-author book projects. An applicant must have a PhD by the time of the deadline, preferably in Political Science, Public Policy, Policy Analysis, International Political Economy, or History.
