American Educational Research Association Minority Dissertation Fellowship

The fellowship program was established to provide support for doctoral dissertation research, to advance education research by outstanding minority graduate students, and to improve the quality and diversity of university faculties. This fellowship is targeted for members of racial and ethnic groups historically underrepresented in higher education (e.g., African Americans, Alaskan Natives, American Indians, Asian Americans, Hispanics or Latinos, and Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islanders). This program offers doctoral fellowships to enhance the competitiveness of outstanding minority scholars for academic appointments at major research universities. It supports fellows conducting education research and provides mentoring and guidance toward the completion of their doctoral studies.

Social Science Research Council International Dissertation Research Fellowship

The Mellon International Dissertation Research Fellowship (IDRF) offers nine to twelve months of support to graduate students in the humanities and humanistic social sciences who are enrolled in PhD programs in the United States and conducting dissertation research on non-US topics. Eighty fellowships are awarded annually. Fellowship amounts vary depending on the research plan, with a per-fellowship average of $20,000. The fellowship includes participation in an SSRC-funded interdisciplinary workshop upon the completion of IDRF-funded research.
Applicants from select disciplines within the humanities (Art History, Architectural History, Classics, Drama/Theater, Film Studies, Literature, Musicology, Performance Studies, Philosophy, Political Theory, and Religion) are welcome to request three or more months of funding for international onsite dissertation research (in combination with US-based research, for a total of nine to twelve months of funding). All other applicants (for instance, those in Anthropology, Geography, History, Political Science, and Sociology, among others) must request nine to twelve months of onsite, site-specific dissertation research with a minimum of six months of research outside of the United States. Research within the United States must be site-specific (eg, at a particular archive) and cannot be at the applicant's home institution unless that institution has necessary site-specific research holdings.

Thomas J. Watson Fellowship, Watson Foundation

The Thomas J. Watson Fellowship is a grant for independent study and travel outside the United States. During the fellowship, fellows may not return to the United States or their home country if they are foreign nationals. Watson Fellows must create, execute, and evaluate their own projects.

Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute Congressional Interns

The purpose of the Congressional Internship Program (CIP) is to expose young Latinos to the legislative process and to strengthen their professional and leadership skills, ultimately promoting the presence of Latinos on Capitol Hill and in Federal Agencies. The program provides college students with a paid work placement in a Congressional Office or Federal Agency for a period of twelve weeks (Spring/Fall) or eight weeks (Summer). This unmatched experience allows students to learn first hand about our nation's legislative process.
Promising Latino undergraduates from across the country are selected for this leadership training program. Students gain work experience, participate in a community service project, and receive educational and professional programming provided by CHCI. This comprehensive three-prong approach provides extraordinary learning and networking opportunities for students.

National Science Foundation East Asia and Pacific Summer Institutes for U.S. Graduate Students

The East Asia and Pacific Summer Institutes provide U.S. graduate students in science and engineering: 1) first-hand research experience in Australia, China, Japan, Korea, New Zealand or Taiwan; 2) an introduction to the science and science policy infrastructure of the respective location; and 3) orientation to the society, culture and language. The primary goals of EAPSI are to introduce students to East Asia and Pacific science and engineering in the context of a research laboratory, and to initiate personal relationships that will better enable collaboration with foreign counterparts in the future.

Ploughshares Fund Grants

Ploughshares Fund makes grants to support initiatives aimed at preventing the spread and use of nuclear weapons and toward their eventual elimination. The fund also supports efforts to prevent conflicts that could lead to the use nuclear weapons and to promote conflict prevention as a necessary approach to stability.
Ploughshares Fund invests in a wide range of innovative and practical programs, from scientific research to media, to behind-the-scenes dialogue, to grassroots organizing and even lobbying. After research and with the counsel of advisors, Ploughshares' staff makes funding recommendations based upon the following strategic principles:
1. Can the project affect policy?
2. Can it reach policymakers and the public with the information they need to make wise decisions about weapons and global security?
Beyond those criteria, the fund places very few restrictions on its grantmaking. Grants are supported wherever they can have the greatest impact.

Postdoctoral fellowships will be awarded in a national competition administered by the National Research Council (NRC) on behalf of the Ford Foundation. The awards will be made to individuals who, in the judgment of the review panels, have demonstrated superior academic achievement, are committed to a career in teaching and research at the college or university level, show promise of future achievement as scholars and teachers, and are well prepared to use diversity as a resource for enriching the education of all students.
Awards will be made for study in the following major disciplines and related interdisciplinary fields: American studies, anthropology, archaeology, art and theater history, astronomy, chemistry, communications, computer science, earth sciences, economics, education, engineering, ethnomusicology, geography, history, international relations, language, life sciences, linguistics, literature, mathematics, performance study, philosophy, physics, political science, psychology, religion, sociology, urban planning, and women's studies. Also eligible are interdisciplinary ethnic studies programs, such as African American studies and Native American studies, and other interdisciplinary programs, such as area studies, peace studies, and social justice. Research-based fields of education are eligible if the major field of study is listed above and is used to describe the Ph.D. or Sc.D. program of the applicant (e.g., sociology of education, anthropology and education).

International Council for Canadian Studies Best Doctoral Thesis in Canadian Studies

This ICCS Award is designed to recognize and promote each year an outstanding PhD thesis on a Canadian topic, written by a member (or one of his/her students) of a Canadian Studies Association or Associate Member, and which contributes to a better understanding of Canada.
Every member association or associate member of the ICCS can submit each year one PhD thesis written in any language, which has been successfully defended within the preceding two years. The thesis must be a scholarly monograph dealing mainly with a Canadian topic. Comparative works are eligible if the Canadian content is 50% or more.
