Aviation Giant 'Plans Firm to Focus on Engine Design, Production'

State-backed aircraft manufacturer Aviation Industry Corp. of China (AVIC) will set up an independent company to focus on designing and making airplane engines, sources with knowledge of the matter say. The company will consist of the AVIC's engine design and manufacturing companies, one of the sources said. Its name will be Aero Engine Corp. of China, and it will be formed by the end of the year.

Advanced Chinese Satellite Releases Photos

Chinese space authorities have publicized the first batch of photos captured by Gaofen-2, the country's most advanced Earth observation satellite so far. The State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense says it plans to use the new satellite to help with a variety of tasks, including land use surveillance, mineral resource surveys and disaster relief.
