Society for Historians of American Foreign Relations Dissertation Completion Fellowship

 

Deadline: April 1, 2014

 

Applicants should be candidates for the PhD in a humanities or social science doctoral program (most likely history), must have been admitted to candidacy, and must be at the writing stage, with all substantial research completed by the time of the award. Applicants should be working on a topic in the field of U.S. foreign relations history or international history, broadly defined, and must be current members of SHAFR.

 


Rear Admiral John D. Hayes Pre-Doctoral Fellowship in U.S. Naval History, Naval Historial Center, U.S. Department of the Navy

The Naval Historical Center of Department of the Navy offers a pre-doctoral fellowship, The John D. Hayes Fellowship, named in honor of Rear Admiral John D. Hayes for his enthusiastic encouragement of naval scholars and his own significant contributions to the field. The subject matter of dissertations supported should significantly enhance knowledge of U.S. naval history.

 


German Historical Institute Doctoral and Postdoc Fellowships

The GHI awards short-term fellowships to German and American doctoral students as well as postdoctoral scholars in the fields of German history, the history of German-American relations, and the history of the role of Germany and the USA in international relations. We especially invite applications from doctoral students and postdoctoral scholars who currently do not receive funding from their home institutions. The research projects must draw upon primary sources located in the United States.



Kappa Omicron Nu Fellowships

Fellowship opportunities are awarded from an endowment in the Omicron Nu Fellowship Fund. Awards will be made for study and research in family and consumer sciences or one of its specializations at colleges or universities with strong research programs and supporting disciplines for the chosen major or topic.

Galina Starovoitova Fellowship on Human Rights and Conflict Resolution, Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, Keenan Institute for Advanced Russian Studies

In keeping with both the legacies of Woodrow Wilson and Galina Starovoitova, the Starovoitova Fellowship will be available to prominent scholars and policy makers from the Russian Federation who have successfully bridged the worlds of ideas and public affairs to advance human rights, the rule of law, conflict resolution, the free press, and civil society. Applicants with outstanding capability and experience from a wide variety of backgrounds (including government, journalism, the professions, NGOs, and academia) are eligible for appointment. For academic participants, eligibility is limited to the postdoctoral level, and normally it is expected that academic candidates will have demonstrated their scholarly development by publication beyond the Kandidat dissertation. For other applicants, an equivalent level of professional achievement is expected. Applicants must be eligible to obtain a J-1 exchange visitor visa.

Language Legacies Grant Program, Endangered Language Fund

The Endangered Language Fund provides grants for language maintenance and linguistic field work. The work most likely to be funded is that which serves both the native community and the field of linguistics. Work which has immediate applicability to one group and more distant application to the other will also be considered.  Proposals can originate in any country. The language involved must be in danger of disappearing within a generation or two. Endangerment is a continuum, and the location on the continuum is one factor in funding decisions. Eligible expenses include consultant fees, tapes, films, travel, etc.

Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute Congressional Internship Program

Deadline: April 25, 2014

The purpose of the Congressional Internship Program (CIP) is to expose young Latinos to the legislative process and to strengthen their professional and leadership skills, ultimately promoting the presence of Latinos on Capitol Hill and in Federal Agencies. The program provides college students with a paid work placement in a Congressional Office or Federal Agency for a period of twelve weeks (Spring/Fall) or eight weeks (Summer).
